Valduero Una Cepa Ribera del Duero 75 cl, a premium red wine from Bodegas Valduero, in the renowned Ribera del Duero appellation. The “75 CL” indicates the standard bottle size of 750 ml.

This is a limited-production, single-vineyard expression recognized for its elegance and terroir character.

Bodegas Valduero, founded in 1984 by Gregorio García Álvarez in Gumiel de Mercado (Burgos, Spain). Currently managed by his daughters, Yolanda and Carolina García Viadero, it is a “château” style family estate surrounded by its own vineyards.
Appellation: D.O. Ribera del Duero (one of Spain’s leading regions for Tempranillo reds).
Vintage availability: Produced in selected vintages such as 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. The style of the wine emphasizes its long aging potential.
Philosophy: “Una Cepa” reflects its very low yield: each vine produces just the right amount of grapes for one bottle. This is due to the discovery in 2006 of an exceptional plot with tiny clusters and minimal production (3000 kg/ha), prioritizing quality over quantity.

  • Grape variety and viticulture: Grape: 100% Tempranillo (known locally as Tinto Fino).
  • Vineyard details: Old vines over 50 years old, goblet-trained, planted on clay-limestone soils at an altitude of approximately 842 meters.
  • No irrigation or chemical fertilizers: strict winter pruning, green harvesting in June and hand picking ensure balance and concentration. Yields are three times lower than in vines trained on trellises, resulting in grapes that are three times more intense.

Winemaking: Fermentation: Terroir-native yeasts enhance the personality and site-specific flavors.
Aging: 18 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels (of two origins for complexity), followed by 12 months in bottle.
Alcohol: Typically around 14% (varies slightly by vintage).
Production: Extremely limited; only the best clusters from selected vines are used.

Tasting notes: This wine evolves beautifully with air and time. General vintage profile: Appearance: Intense cherry red, bright and deep.
Aroma: Complex and complex: ripe red fruits (plum, blackberry), with tertiary notes of oak such as vanilla, toasted leather, smoke and subtle spices. Initial freshness gives way to earthy and balsamic nuances.

Evolution: Improves with decanting; combines the power of Ribera del Duero with finesse.

Food pairings: Ideal for strong dishes that combine with its intensity: Red meats (grilled steak, roast lamb).
Game (venison, wild boar).
Blue fish or blue seafood.
Cured cheeses and charcuterie.

Ratings and accolades: Highly rated by critics: it usually scores between 92 and 95 points on platforms such as Vivino and Wine Spectator for its depth and balance.

Praised for representing the noble style of Ribera del Duero: elegant, with ageing capacity and faithful to Tempranillo.
