OSBORNE FINO COQUINERO 75 CL.
Osborne Fino Coquinero 75 cl is a premium fino sherry from Bodegas Osborne, one of the historic houses of Jerez, located in El Puerto de Santa María (D.O. Jerez-Xérès-Sherry).
- Grape variety: 100% Palomino Fino
- Alcohol content: 17% ABV (higher than most fine wines, giving it more body and intensity)
- Aging: Traditional farms and solera system in El Puerto de Santa María. It spends approximately 6–7 years under the flor yeast layer (biological aging), with some batches undergoing a brief period of oxidative aging afterward, adding complexity and hints of amontillado.
- Format: 75 cl bottle (the classic version). There is also the Fino Coquinero En Rama version (unfiltered, usually in 50 cl bottles), bottled directly from the cask with minimal intervention to ensure maximum freshness and intensity.
- Origin of the grapes: Mainly from the Balbaína vineyard.
The name “Coquinero” refers to the gatherers of coquinas (a type of shellfish found along the coast of Cádiz) and is also an affectionate nickname for the residents of El Puerto de Santa María.
Tasting notes:
- Appearance: Straw-yellow to deep golden in color, with a brilliant sheen.
- Nose: Elegant, classic fino aromas with crisp, fresh floral notes. Prominent aromas include almonds, hazelnuts, green olives in brine, dried herbs, lemon zest, green apple, and a slight mineral/salty note. There is a subtle undertone of polished wood and slight oxidation.
- Palate: Dry, powerful, and full-bodied. Very sharp, flavorful, and briny. Notes of nuts (bitter almond, hazelnut), olives, citrus, and a long, complex finish. It is richer and more complex than a conventional fino, with an elegant balance between the freshness of the flor and the nuances of amontillado.
This is a unique sherry, distinguished by its longer-than-usual aging and high alcohol content, making it ideal for pairing with:
- Iberian ham
- Aged cheeses (especially blue cheeses)
- OIives
- Fried or plain fish
- Seafood (clams, of course)
- Savory tapas in general
We recommend serving it very cold (6–8°C) in a fino glass or a small tasting glass. If you’re looking for the En Rama version, it’s even more expressive and limited in production, making it ideal for lovers of the purest, unfiltered sherries.
