Ponche Caballero 70 Cl is a renowned Spanish liqueur with a history dating back to 1830, originating in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz. Founded by José Cabaleiro do Lago, who transitioned from a timber business in Galicia to producing wine, brandy, and punch in Chipiona, this liqueur is made from a secret family recipe that is more than 180 years old.
It is a blend of Spanish brandy, Andalusian orange peel, and exotic botanicals such as Sri Lankan cinnamon, Mexican vanilla, Madagascan cloves, and Indonesian nutmeg, with additional notes of cherries, grapes, raisins, plums, and almonds. Characterized by a bright amber hue, it offers a sweet, intense flavor with aromas of orange, vanilla, and spices, complemented by hints of almond and cinnamon.
With an alcohol content of 25–28%, it is versatile: it can be enjoyed neat, over ice, or in cocktails such as the Caballero Sunrise, Margarita, or Old Fashioned. Its iconic silver bottle reflects its heritage, inspired by traditional punch bowls, and has become a classic of Spanish culture, often associated with celebrations and family gatherings.
Since its resurgence in the 1940s, Ponche Caballero has gone from being a regional favorite in Andalusia to becoming the most widely consumed liqueur in Spain and a global icon, available in markets throughout Europe and the Americas. It is renowned for its craftsmanship and is often paired with soft drinks or enjoyed as a digestif.
