CUNE IMPERIAL RESERVA RIOJA 75 CL.
It is one of the most emblematic and prestigious wines of the CVNE winery (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España), and an absolute classic of the DOCa Rioja. It belongs to the premium Imperial line, considered the flagship of the winery alongside the Gran Reserva. It is a high-end Reserva, with a traditional yet elegant and modern style, highly valued internationally.
- Producer: CVNE (Imperial line)
- Type: Red Reserva
- Varieties: 85% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano, Mazuelo, and Garnacha (approximate proportions; may vary slightly by vintage)
- Format: 75 cl bottle
- Alcohol content: 13-14% vol. (generally 13.5%)
- Aging: Maturation of about 24 months in oak barrels (a mix of ~70% French and ~30% American), plus an extended rest in the bottle (at least an additional 12-18 months) to meet and exceed the requirements for Reserva. Total: more than 3-4 years from harvest.
- Origin: Own vineyards over 40 years old in towns of Rioja Alta such as Villalba, Briones, and Torremontalbo (estates like Remedio and Encinas). Varied soils that contribute complexity and elegance.
It is a Rioja of great finesse, structured, with excellent aging potential (10–20+ years in good vintages), and represents the best of the classic Riojan style with modern touches of fruit and balance.
Tasting notes:
- Appearance: Intense garnet color or deep cherry red, with evolving brick or garnet edging.
- Nose: Complex and elegant: ripe black fruits (blackberries, plums, cassis), licorice, vanilla, spices (clove, pepper), hints of cocoa, tobacco, leather and subtle balsamic or toasty notes from the barrel.
- Palate: Medium-high body, fine and polished tannins, lively and balanced acidity, silky and fresh mouthfeel, with layers of black fruit, sweet spices, and a long, persistent, mineral finish. Elegant, structured, and with great depth.
- Style: High-end Classic Rioja: refined, balanced, with well-integrated oak and tremendous longevity. It is not heavy, but harmonious and sophisticated.
Usual very high scores: 94-96 points (James Suckling, Tim Atkin, Robert Parker, Peñín Guide, Vinous, etc.). It is described as “elegant and precise,” “classic yet vibrant,” and “one of the best Rioja Reservas for value for money.”
