TOMATIN 15-YEAR-OLD PALO CORTADO 70 CL – SHERRY COLLECTION
Tomatin Aged in Palo Cortado, a limited-edition Scotch single malt released in July 2024.
- Distillery: Tomatin (Highlands, Scotland)
- Year of distillation: 2008
- Age: 15 years old
- Aging method: Initially aged in traditional barrels and finished for 3 years in Palo Cortado butts (a very special and relatively rare type of sherry—dry yet rich—that combines characteristics of both bitter and fragrant).
- Alcohol content: 46% ABV
- Presentation: Non-chill filtered and naturally colored.
- Format: 700 ml bottle
- Approximate price: Around £95 / €100–110 (depending on the market)
Official tasting notes:
- Nose: Aromas of cinder toffee (toasted caramel) and dried orange, with a rich, inviting character.
- Palate: Notes of milk chocolate, Brazilian nuts, and toasted fruit loaf.
- Finish: Complex and tangy, with notes of black tea, ginger, and a dry, spicy finish.
This is a well-balanced whiskey that clearly reflects the influence of Palo Cortado: it offers notes of nuts, chocolate, a hint of dryness, and spices, without being as sweet as a Pedro Ximénez or as salty as a Manzanilla. It is part of Tomatin’s The Sherry Collection, a trilogy that also includes editions aged in Manzanilla and Pedro Ximénez casks, launched to celebrate the influence of different types of sherry on the maturation of whiskey.
