Protos Crianza Ribera del Duero 75 Cl
Protos Crianza is a red wine from Ribera del Duero, Spain, produced by Bodegas Protos, a pioneering winery founded in 1927. Made with 100% Tempranillo grapes from vineyards between 25 and 35 years old, it is aged for 12 to 14 months in French and American oak barrels (typically 33% new barrels, 34% one year old and 33% two years old) and a further 12 months in bottle. Characteristics: Color: Cherry red with garnet or purple rim, indicative of youth.
Nose: High aromatic intensity with ripe red and black fruits (plums, blackberries, cherries), complemented with vanilla, cinnamon, clove, licorice, cocoa and toasted notes from barrel aging.
Palate: Balanced, enveloping and structured, with soft and well integrated tannins, good acidity and a long, slightly smoky finish, with fruity hints. Alcohol content: Around 14-14.5% vol.
Serving temperature: 15-18 °C (59-64 °F).
Pairing: Ideal with red meats, game, veal cheeks, oxtail, roasted vegetables, carpaccios, Iberian ham, cured meats, strong cheeses or hearty dishes such as fabada or ragú. Winery background: Protos, which means “first” in Greek, was the first winery in Peñafiel and contributed to the Ribera del Duero appellation of origin in 1982. It manages 1400 hectares of vineyards, prioritizing quality through manual harvesting, the use of indigenous yeasts and careful grape selection.
Vintages: Recent vintages, such as 2019, 2020 and 2021, stand out for their consistency and quality, with scores of around 3.9/5 on Vivino.
