Machaquito Sweet Anise is a traditional Spanish aniseed liqueur, produced by the distillery Hijos de Rafael Reyes (known as Anís Machaquito) in Rute, Córdoba (Andalusia). It is one of the most popular varieties of this century-old brand, famous for its artisanal anise spirits since the late 19th century.

• Type: Sweet anise (anise-flavored liqueur with higher sugar content, smoother and less harsh than the dry one).
• Alcohol content: usually 35% vol.
• Appearance: Colorless, transparent, and shiny.
• Aroma: Intense aniseed scent, with sweet and herbal notes.
• Flavor: Sweet, with a lingering aniseed note, balanced and very aromatic on the palate. It is digestive, stimulates the appetite, and is considered a diuretic according to traditional descriptions.
• Production: It is obtained by distilling natural anise seeds (aniseed) and other plants in copper stills, combined with alcohol (often from molasses), sugar, and demineralized and softened water from the Rute mountain range. It is a natural product, without artificial additives.
  
  Brand context: Machaquito Anise owes its name to the famous bullfighter Rafael González Madrid “Machaquito” (late 19th and early 20th centuries), who was related to the founding family. The distillery, located in Rute (famous for its anise liqueurs and mantecados), also produces variants such as Machaquito Dry Anise (stronger, ~55% ABV) or Tridestilado Extra Dry (its premium version).
  
  It is a classic for after-dinner gatherings, shots after heavy meals, or even in desserts and Christmas baking in Andalusia. If you are in Spain, especially in the south, it is a very typical and well-loved liqueur!
