Nutella Plant-Based Vegan, 350g is a certified vegan version of the iconic hazelnut spread, launched by Ferrero in 2024 to meet the growing demand for plant-based products. It replaces the skimmed milk powder in classic Nutella with plant-based ingredients such as chickpeas and rice syrup, while maintaining the same distinctive taste and creamy texture. The spread contains sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts (13%), chickpeas, defatted cocoa powder (7.4%), rice syrup powder, soy lecithin, salt and flavorings. It is certified vegan by the Vegetarian Society, is gluten-free and suitable for lactose intolerant people, although it may contain traces of milk because it is produced in facilities that process milk, so it is not suitable for people allergic to milk protein.
The product comes in a 350g recyclable jar with 60% recycled glass and a lid made from recycled plastic using a mass balance approach, certified by ISCC for sustainable sourcing. It uses 100% RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil, although concerns about the environmental impact of palm oil, such as deforestation, persist. Nutritionally, it has slightly less sugar (45.4 g vs. 56.3 g per 100 g) and fewer carbohydrates than classic Nutella, with 534 kcal per 100 g vs. 539 kcal.
