La Batalla De La Barrosa White Wine from Cádiz 75 Cl

La Batalla de la Barrosa Vino Blanco de Cádiz 75 cl is a single varietal Sauvignon Blanc made by Bodega Manuel Aragón in Chiclana, Cádiz, Spain, under the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Vinos de la Tierra de Cádiz. Named after the historic Battle of La Barrosa (1811), this wine reflects the unique terroir of the region, influenced by Chiclana’s climate, soil and proximity to the sea.

Characteristics:

  • Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc, originally from France.
  • Alcoholic graduation: 12 % vol.
  • Volume: 75 cl.
  • Energy value: 84.04 kcal per 100 ml.
  • Visual notes: Golden yellow with greenish or coppery reflections, clean and bright. Some sources indicate a golden straw color with new golden reflections. Olfactory notes: Typical Sauvignon Blanc aromas, including citrus (green melon, pineapple), floral (white flowers), herbaceous (freshly cut grass) and hints of white peach, butter or tomato in some descriptions.
  • Tasting notes: Balanced and refreshing acidity, with tropical notes such as pineapple or passion fruit, a silky finish and good persistence. Some sources mention a fresh entry, oxidative notes and fresh grape flavors.
  • Pairing: Ideal with seafood, fish, light meats, olives, salted fish, mild cheeses and salads with fruit, raisins, peppers or tomatoes. It also pairs well with pasta or light paellas.
  • Serving temperature: Recommended between 6 and 13 °C, preferably in a white wine glass.

Background: The wine is named after the Battle of La Barrosa, fought on March 5, 1811, during the Spanish War of Independence, near Torre del Puerco in Chiclana. The name also inspired Colonel William Light, a participant in the battle, to baptize a region of Australia as “La Barrosa Valley” due to its resemblance to the Cádiz landscape.

Summary of tasting notes:

  • Appearance: Bright golden yellow with greenish or coppery reflections.
  • Aroma: Intense and varietal, with citrus, floral and herbaceous notes.
  • Taste: Dry, elegant, balanced, with a refreshing and silky profile.
