Johnnie Walker Black Ruby 70 cl is a modern, fruity, and sweet blended Scotch whisky (40% ABV), a permanent addition to Johnnie Walker’s main range. It is a sweeter and more indulgent interpretation of the classic Black Label, with an emphasis on vibrant notes of berries and candied fruit, while maintaining the boldness of Scotch whisky.

• Bottle size: 70 cl (standard size in Europe).
• Alcohol content: 40%.
• Master Blender: Dr. Emma Walker (her first permanent creation in the main range since taking office in 2022).
• Launch: It was gradually introduced at the end of 2024 (especially in travel retail) and expanded globally in 2025. It is already available in specialty stores and major retailers.

Characteristics and production: It is made based on the Black Label, but with a richer and more indulgent profile. It includes maturation in first-fill red wine barrels (including from the Roseisle distillery for rich and sweet malts), barrels seasoned with PX and Oloroso sherry, and ex-bourbon barrels. This imparts influences of lush fruit, caramel, and vanilla, with a subtle smoky undertone. Official tasting notes highlight bold tones of berries, deep honeyed sweetness, figs, plums, and maraschino cherries, with a velvety and smooth texture.

• Nose: Raspberry jam, blackcurrant, blackberry tart, pomegranate, cherries, honey, toasted toffee, oak, and a slight hint of smoke.
• Mouth: Stewed plums, sticky dates, chocolate truffle, currant jam, honeyed figs, winter spices, and a subtle salty/herbaceous touch.
• Final: Sweet and medium-bodied, with persistent berries, dark chocolate, charred oak, and soft smoke.

It is smoother and fruitier than the standard Black Label (less balanced in malt/smoke) and clearly sweeter than the smokier Double Black. It is very approachable, ideal for beginners or for cocktails.
